Things worth knowing
- Whole-milk Greek yogurt is about 97 kcal per 100 g against 59 kcal for nonfat, with the same protein.
- Straining removes lactose along with the whey, so Greek yogurt is often better tolerated than regular yogurt by people with lactose intolerance.
- Flavoured versions commonly add 8 to 15 g of sugar per 100 g, which can nearly double the calories. These figures are for plain yogurt only.
- Because whey is removed, Greek yogurt supplies less calcium per gram than regular yogurt despite containing more protein.
