Things worth knowing

  • A cup (240 ml) has about 104 kcal (437 kJ) and 6.3 g of protein. A 30 ml splash in coffee adds about 13 kcal (55 kJ).
  • Original and vanilla soy milks are lightly sweetened, with about 3.7 g of sugars per 100 g. Unsweetened soy milk has about 38 kcal per 100 g and only around 1.3 g of carbohydrate.
  • Compared with oat milk (about 45 kcal and 0.7 g of protein per 100 g), soy milk has similar energy but nearly four times the protein. Whole cow's milk has about 3.3 g of protein and 61 kcal.
  • A fortified cup supplies about 300 mg of calcium (23% DV) and 2.1 µg of vitamin B12 (86% DV). Unfortified brands contain far less, so check the label.
