Red Bull energy drink has 46 kcal (195 kJ) per 100 ml, so a standard 250 ml can comes to about 115 kcal. Nearly all of that energy is sugar, 11 g per 100 ml, with no fat or protein. Each 250 ml can also contains 80 mg of caffeine plus added B vitamins, which is where the energy-drink name comes from rather than the calories themselves.

Things worth knowing

  • The US label lists 110 kcal, 29 g of carbohydrate and 26 g of sugar for an 8.4 fl oz (250 ml) can, close to the UK figures.
  • 80 mg of caffeine per 250 ml is roughly what you get in a regular cup of brewed coffee.
  • The B vitamins (niacin, pantothenic acid, B6 and B12) are added in amounts at or above the daily reference; they do not provide energy themselves.
  • Red Bull Sugarfree uses sweeteners and has about 10 kcal per US can, with the same 80 mg of caffeine.
